Going back to the Emergency

The Government's decision to amend the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act seems to have been made in great haste and without enough deliberation. While it is true that the media's self-regulation failed hopelessly on 26/11, the new law is draconian, akin to laws in place during the Emergency!

The idea that a government official can simply decide what is good and what is bad (and deem it 'national interest' in the process) sickens the people of a democratic nation. The idea of allowing a government official to confiscate equipment and shut down media offices is pure evil.

The Government should cooperate with the NBA (News Broadcasters' Association) in strengthening self-regulation and making it more effective. Instead, it is trying to gag the media. What a shame!
